Day 3



The sky was in turmoil today. We started the day with a 900m portage, which seemed unnecessary for the set which it circumvented. After several trips down, entourage of blackflies in tow, we got on the water. Under a sunny sky we tore across 4.5 of lake sailing an laughing behind our big orange taro. Morale was up. After we turned a corner, thankful the whitecaps were still going our way, the sky opened up. We could see weather systems moving around us from all directions, and an unannounced thunder crack sent us scampering to shore for lunch behind the deafening boom that raced across the cloudy sky. The sun is strange here. It threatens to set at 4:30 with its dim light, as it did today, bathing everything in a pallid luster that contrasts sharply with the charcoal grey sky; but rather than set, it swings along the horizon, keeping the sky alight until 10:30. We set our watches an hour early for STD. We’ll do one more hour tomorrow just to ease into it a day at a tim
