The sun never sets here. . . Last night at 12:30 (STD) the most brilliant panoramic sunset burst over us from the horizon. 6 hours later the sun rose again. Today we finally got our nice weather. The pressure shot up 21 points from our arrival day to 983mbar, and there were no clouds in the sky all day. We paddled wide channels and lakes all day, with almost no wind. The air is as clear here as a lens, and the sky is a low blue dome stretching from horizon to horizon. This land is flat and immense. A

s we fought fatigue from our time change we hammered across Ozhiski lake. Bill caught sights of an island with a sand spit. We scrapped plans of a push and a dialed sail and sped for the spit. It is now 9:00 STD and the sun looks like it would at 5:00 on June 21st. High in the sky. It is slowly paving its low arc to the horizon, and we await a spectacular sunset. We’ve spent all afternoon on the beach enjoying the view and waves, digging a canal to connect the lake through the spit. Such strange things happen here at the top of the province. Mackie pulled up on the spit before we did and ran a long it. I’ve never seen a person standing against such a large, distant horizon. It created an effect that made mackie look as though he was 100 feet tall. I took a photo but I doubt the effect will be reproduced.
